Omaha Hi-Low: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so quickly.
Omaha hi low starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more round of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The players will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of players get baffled. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical concept in nearly every poker game.
A low hand is more complex, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complicated at the outset, after a couple of hands you will be able to get the basic nuances of the game easily enough. Since you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming assortment of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous players shooting for the high, as well as several battling for the low.
