Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he loved gambling on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in these particular card games as he was playing his father. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and moved to New York City to compete in some formidable chess. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would often wager against one another. He was able to access a number of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his logical thinking skills. He applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

He also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
