Omaha Hi Low: Fundamental Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of players often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same notion in nearly every poker game.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult at the outset, following a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an exciting array of betting options and owing to the fact that you have several individuals trying for the high hand, along with a few trying for the low.
