Omaha Hi-Lo: Basic Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where some entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same notion in almost every poker game.
A low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
