Internet poker has become globally acclaimed lately, with televised competitions and celebrity poker game shows. Its universal appeal, though, stretches back quite a bit further than its television ratings. Over the years several types on the original poker game have been developed, including a few games that are not really poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is 1 of these particular games. Despite the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely affiliated with vingt-et-un than old guard poker, in that the players bet against the casino instead of each other. The winning hands, are the established poker hands. There is little bluffing or different kinds of deception. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to ante up prior to the dealer saying "No more wagers." At that moment, both you and the casino and of course all of the other players attain five cards each. Once you have looked at your hand and the dealer’s initial card, you need to either make a call bet or surrender. The call wager’s amount is equal to your original ante, which means that the stakes will have increased two fold. Surrendering means that your ante goes immediately to the house. After the wager comes the showdown. If the house doesn’t have ace/king or better, your wager is given back, including an amount on par with the initial wager. If the casino has a hand with ace/king or better, you win if your hand beats the casino’s hand. The dealer pony’s up chips even with your ante and set odds on your call bet. These odds are:

  • Equal for a pair or high card
  • 2-1 for two pairs
  • three to one for 3 of a kind
  • 4-1 for a straight
  • five to one for a flush
  • seven to one for a full house
  • twenty to one for a 4 of a kind
  • 50-1 for a straight flush
  • 100-1 for a royal flush
