Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have never heard of. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
